Making Time for Healthy Habits

show notes:

Think you don’t have time for healthy habits like exercise, meditation or journaling? Maybe you just aren’t giving them the priority they deserve. In this episode we talk about utilizing the method of calendar blocking to make sure we are spending our time in the healthiest, most productive way possible. By tracking every activity in a day, it’s easy to see where we are giving away our time and how we can gain some of it back to make time for the things we know we should be doing. And I am definitely guilty as charged!

Here is a sample of my day using calendar blocking. I can easily see what I am spending my time on with the use of color coding. Green is personal, purple for healthy habits, blue for meetings and orange for business. Anything white is extra time that I can use for whatever I like, or nothing at all.

Haha, if you look closely you’ll see I managed to squeeze in some time for The Bachelor. It’s all about priorities, right??

There are many calendar apps out there, but I just use Google calendar. It’s free and syncs with my iPhone calendar and I can share with anyone, even if they don’t have an iPhone. Sam prefers the Outlook calendar which has similar features and is also sharable and syncs with all of her devices. And if you still prefer a paper calendar, that works too using different colored highlighter pens. The point is use what you like and are familiar with.

Start by blocking time for everything you do on a daily basis. Then you can start to see where you have gaps of time. Fill those in with your healthy habits, like:

Meditation

Journaling

Exercise

Meal Planning

Sleep

I will leave you with this quote of the week:

“The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule but to schedule your priorities.” - Stephen Covey
